Worker Bees
(2.5 – 3)

Putting our Worker Bees to work.

2.5 - 3 years

And by “work”, we mean, “play!” Play is a child’s work, and this is just what our Worker Bee room is designed to reflect. Our 2.5 – 3-year-olds have diverse opportunities for experiential play that link to their individual interests and developmental stage.

At this age, your child can communicate more effectively than ever, so building relationships and social skills is an important aspect in the Work Bee room. They’re also more independent, with their own unique mix of desires, opinions, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. To align with this, Ascolta Educators take each day as it comes, and decide how best to teach your child on the day.

A place where children shape their own learning.

Nurturing personal expression.

We continue to nurture your child’s sense-of-self and independence, whilst encouraging them to build healthy relationships through positive social skills. The Worker Bee room provides opportunities for children to be part of whole group learning, smaller groups, partner-play, or individual learning. We love that children at this age are opinionated about where and what they would like to learn, so we have many setups around the room for your child to choose from.

Our “Nook” play couch can be rearranged into exciting configurations, like a castle, tunnel, house, and more. This imaginative-play builds problem-solving skills, cause-and-effect awareness, and teamwork.

Children enjoy self-expression through cutting and gluing, painting and drawing on a canvas or paper, or scribbling on our whiteboard. If we don’t have what your child is searching for, we go on an adventure to the other classes and borrow their materials.

Building and bashing towers, constructing with blocks, playing with cars, as well as real-life play scenarios (like dressing dolls and going shopping) allow children to use their imaginations alone or with others.

We intentionally choose activities that build fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination as children begin to use writing tools for the first time. This includes playdough, cork board, and games like Tap, Tap, Nail.

Our Emro Rug helps introduce Indigenous culture through authentic story-driven art work. Your child will be memorised with the tones, shapes, and colours as they play on the soft rug.

It’s even better in person.

See for yourself

This is just a taste of what to expect — we’d love to show you and your little one around in person. We’re also always open to feedback, so if you’d like to see something else in the Worker Bee room, let us know!
